Man raises £1,200 for NHS by waxing and shaving away all his hair
Jack Collyer was having some virtual drinks with his pals when his friends started to talk about the closure of barbershops.
The 26-year-old from Sutton joked that he might as well get crafty with a pair of trimmers and soon a dare was born. Before he knew it, Jack got the wax and shaving kit he needed and decided to raise money for the NHS.
It’s not just his head hair he got rid of, Jack also said goodbye to his chest and leg hair and even his eyebrows.
He set up a livestream on Facebook to raise money for NHS Charities Together.
The money raised will go towards food and accommodation costs for staff and volunteers caring for coronavirus patients.
The dare to go bare has paid off, as Jack has managed to raise £1,200 so far. While Jack is now hairless, it’s all for a good cause.
‘I said I might as well shave all my hair off as a joke, and it just went from there,’ he said.
‘I figured a head shave wouldn’t be as attention-grabbing so I waxed off all of my chest and leg hair – it was a new and fairly uncomfortable experience for me.
‘Everyone has received help from the NHS and we have never needed them more than now – so why not give back?’ Jack added that there are lots of serious and negative stories going around at the moment so he wanted to do something fun and lighthearted.
He said: ‘There are a lot of stories about the worst of us in the news and not enough about the good side of the public. ‘It is nice to be nice, and it’s your actions in a crisis and the way you help others that define you as a person.’
He’d originally set a target of £500 but they hit that in less than 48 hours so raised it to £750. He added: ‘It just goes to show how important the NHS is to us and how kind people can be, even in a time where our finances are uncertain.’
